Student accommodation in Strasbourg: adopting eco-friendly habits

Sharing

The fight against global warming and pollution is a daily affair, even for students! Think it’s impossible to be eco-friendly on a low budget? Find out some simple habits you can put into place in your student accommodation in Strasbourg.

Use low-impact transport to get around

When going out to classes, shopping or just to meet friends, think about alternatives ways of travelling. Leave your car behind and use public transport if walking isn’t an option. The CTS network (Strasbourg's transport company) is particularly efficient so you can make any journey by bus or tram.

If you don’t want to be at the mercy of the bus timetable and still want a greener way of getting around, then cycling rules in Strasbourg. The pedestrianised city centre and kilometres of cycle paths are an invitation to get pedalling to class. Whether you have your own bike or rent a Velhop, you can use the bike shed in your student residence in Strasbourg to keep your bike safe.

Rethinking daily consumption

Want to do something good for the planet and also your wallet? It can be done! Simply rethink your daily energy consumption, water, electricity, etc.

While there are basic rules such as turning off the light when leaving a room, we often forget to turn off electrical appliances instead of putting them on standby. So, remember to turn off your laptop completely when you go to bed or leave your flat and you’ll avoid using unnecessary electricity.

As for water, little gestures like turning off the tap when brushing your teeth or soaping up can save precious litres of water.

Focus on natural products

To limit waste and the all those nasty chemicals, opt for natural multi-purpose products. To clean your flat, you can use white vinegar on the kettle, shower, windows and more. If you add a pinch of bicarbonate of soda, you can clean your toilets effectively without using dangerous, polluting products. The same goes for the bathroom! Avoid shower gel and opt for bar soap, which causes less pollution as doesn’t come in plastic packaging.

The Nemea residences in Strasbourg are modern and recently built for ideal daily comfort. You don't need to turn radiators up to the max to make your flat comfortable so that’s another win for a greener lifestyle!
