How do you get a student grant?

How to get a student grant: the BCS (social criteria grant)
In France, we're lucky to have the "Boursier sur Critères sociaux" a grant that gives students financial assistance. This system works on a scale of 8, and your position is calculated according to various social criteria. To qualify, you must be a full-time student in higher education, enrolled in initial training (without a sandwich course contract, apprenticeship, etc.) in France or the EU and at an institution that's authorised to receive grant holders.
Before applying, make sure you send in your Student Social File (DSE). It should be sent between 20th January and 15th June in the year you start higher education, before you start your course.
How to get a student grant other than the BCS
You may not be eligible for the BCS or the amount you're allocated may not be enough to cover your expenses. There are also other schemes to help top up your income:
- Merit-based grants: you're eligible for these if you have obtained a 'very good' mark in your baccalaureate and have scholarship status.
- Submit a DSE (Student social file) to the Crous (Student representative body)
- Talent grants: you must be enrolled on a "Talent Preparatory course" to be eligible for this grant.
- Apply via your school's educational adviser
- International mobility grant: this offers financial support to help you study abroad
- Fill in a mobility assistance file with your institution's international relations department
- Emergency assistance: if you are not a scholarship student and are experiencing financial difficulties, you may be eligible for emergency assistance.
- Contact the Crous (Student representative body) in your region
