The positive effects of exercise during your exams

Sharing

Can't exercise because revision is taking up too much of your time? It's too cold outside? You're not really into sports? We've heard every excuse in the book. But with all its positive effects, exercise is worth the effort.

Exercise to stimulate your brain

After several hours of sitting at your desk, there's just one thing you want to do: stretch your legs and empty your mind. And that's totally normal, if you've been pretty stationary all day, then you need to move!

When we exercise, our bodies release endorphins which makes us happy and eases stress. We're not here to give you a science lesson, but here's the short version. A good workout, clears out your brain and makes it much easier to input new information into your memory.

You'll sleep better

Finding it hard to sleep during your exams? There's a good reason, your body isn't tired enough. You're also more likely to be anxious around exam time. Exercise is just what you need, it will help you feel calmer. After a good workout, physical tiredness will take over and help you get to sleep. You won't even have time to think about what's happening tomorrow!

Benefits of exercise on your mental heath

The time around exams can be tough. You go out less (well...usually), your social life dwindles, you feel more alone. Exercise is a great way to get your mental health in shape to take on your exams: less stress, more motivation and more self-belief.

Admit it, the exams lead to excess, rubbish food choices and not everyone handles it well. A little exercise to stay healthy never did anyone any harm.

So, there you have it, there are several positive effects of exercise during your exams. Did you know that Nema Appart'Etud residences have gyms that are available to use all day long? It's the perfect place to get moving and clear your head. Just do it at your own pace!
