What's the best transport option for your daily commute in Lille?

So, you've just moved into student accommodation in Villeneuve-d'Ascq and you're wondering about  public transport in Lille? A diversified public transport network in Lille

Lille has a comprehensive public transport network with llevia. There are 3 main ways to get around:

  • 2 automatic metro lines
  • 2 tram lines
  • 60 bus lines

The network connects Lille to the surrounding towns, for example, metro line 1 takes you from Villeneuve-d'Ascq to the Lille University Hospital. Generous opening times mean you can travel at almost any time. The first metro is at 5:17am and the last departure is at 12:30am. The same applies to the tramway, which serves 9 municipalities. For those of you concerned with the environment, the city has a bicycle rental service called V'Lille. You can use it whenever you need to with the 1 - 12 month subscription system.

 

Lille's public transport subscription system is easy to use.

Lille has a completely contactless system, making it easy to get around. It's called "Pass Pass", and gives you access to all public transport in Lille. Even regional express trains (TER) are included. There are 3 ways to buy your subscriptions:

  • A personal card: use it on all transport and pay your subscription online or at a point of sale.
  • A non-personalised card: use this to buy one-off tickets for your family and friends.
  • A rechargeable ticket: use this for single tickets or day passes.

 

For your information, a single journey lasting up to 1 hour costs €1.80. If you're heading out at night, remember you can use an "Evening Pass" that costs €2.45 instead of the "Daytime Pass" that costs €3.Top tip.
