Public transport in Montpellier

The city of Montpellier has chosen to develop two types of public transport to make urban travel easy: the tramway and the bus. The TaM (Transports de l'Agglomération de Montpellier) network has 4 tram lines and 41 bus lines. A fifth tram line is currently under construction and will be in service by 2025.

With 84 stations and 56 km of track, the tramway serves 8 districts in the Montpellier metropolitan area. The network operates every day (except 1st May) from 4:30 am to 1:00 am (2:00 am on Friday and Saturday nights).

The bus network is made up of 41 routes making travel easy for residents of the city. TaM also offers specific bus services:

-          Resa'Tam: advance booking, minivan ride

-          Evening minibuses: evening returns from Montpellier to the different districts of the city

-          L'Amigo: night returns on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays

By 2026, the city of Montpellier will have bustram lines, an eco-friendly, fast alternative to traditional buses.

Montpellier: a vast network of cycle paths

The city of Montpellier has 137 km of developed cycle routes. Whether your travelling to study or for leisure, it's easy to get around by bike.

TaM offers a complementary service: Vélomagg. This is a bicycle rental service. Vélomagg self-service allows you to rent a bike for up to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This service is accessible from 57 bicycle stations that provide so-called "intelligent" bicycles equipped with an electronic box. The TaM season ticket with the mobility option entitles you to a free first hour for each rental. Beyond that, the rental is charged at €0.50/hour of use. For non-subscribers, use is very simple with the M'Ticket app.

Cars are ok too! Especially if you car share

TaM also offers a car-sharing service: Modulauto. You can rent a car 24/7, for an hour, a weekend or a week. The city has 35 car-sharing stations.

Many parking solutions are available in the city of Montpellier:

-          9 P+tram car parks with 5,000 parking spaces reserved for tramway users

-          6 car parks in the city centre, i.e. almost 4,000 spaces

-          15,000 on-street parking spaces
